Nothing had changed yet. I hadn’t arrived anywhere. And still, the moment I left my home, something in my body softened almost instantly.

Stress didn’t overwhelm me — it lingered. My reactions weren’t bigger than before, but my body stayed activated longer, especially in certain indoor spaces.

Nothing about me had changed. And yet outside my home, my body felt clearer, steadier, and more like itself in a way I couldn’t recreate indoors.

Rest was supposed to help. Instead, it made everything more noticeable. The quieter I became, the louder my body’s signals felt.

Nothing was demanding my attention. Nothing needed fixing. And yet inside my home, my body stayed lightly switched on, as if full rest never quite became available.

I didn’t lose emotional balance overnight. It shifted slowly, almost imperceptibly, until I realized I was spending more energy staying even than actually feeling steady.

I assumed I was overworked, overstimulated, or just doing too much. What confused me was how quickly that “burnout” lifted the moment I left certain spaces.
