Even though leaving protected my health, I carried guilt with me. I learned that guilt wasn’t a sign I’d done something wrong — it was the residue of responsibility I’d been carrying for too long.

I didn’t feel confused. I just couldn’t reach words the way I used to. Names stalled. Thoughts slipped. It felt like my mind was working through fog instead of flowing freely.

Leaving was the right decision — and still, I missed it. I learned that homesickness after mold isn’t always about wanting the place back. Sometimes it’s grief for the life you thought you were living inside it.

When tests came back normal and symptoms didn’t fit a category, the explanation quietly shifted inward. I started questioning my perception — even as my body kept reacting the same way in the same places.

I was sleeping — but I wasn’t restoring. Nights blurred together, mornings felt unfinished, and no amount of “good sleep hygiene” explained why rest stopped feeling complete.

I kept waiting for a clear pattern. Instead, symptoms appeared, shifted, softened, then returned — never in the same order, never on a reliable schedule.

After everything I went through, home stopped feeling like a place and started feeling like a question. I learned that redefining home wasn’t about walls or leases — it was about whether my body could finally exhale somewhere.

I didn’t suddenly develop food fears. I just stopped feeling settled after eating. Foods I once tolerated felt heavier, harder to process, or emotionally uncomfortable — especially indoors.

I thought removing the mold would restore ease. I learned that my body didn’t relax just because the problem was solved — it needed time to believe the threat was actually over.

I expected remediation to be the ending. The fix. When things changed but didn’t disappear, I wondered if I’d misunderstood everything — or if my body was still catching up.
