Even when my body was calmer and days were steadier, I stayed alert. I kept waiting for something to go wrong. It took time to understand why safety felt temporary long after the danger had passed.

I expected relief, joy, or even celebration once things stabilized. What I felt instead was flatness. Not sadness. Not happiness. Just neutral. It took time to understand why emotional quiet felt unsettling after everything I’d been through.

As my body stabilized, gratitude was expected to follow. But gratitude felt complicated when I was still integrating what had happened. Feeling better didn’t mean I was ready to feel thankful yet.
