I thought I was just trying to get better. I didn’t realize I was also mourning a version of my life that disappeared quietly, without permission or closure.

Before anything felt “wrong,” sleep got lighter, emotions felt closer to the surface, and focus became harder to hold. Those early shifts were my body’s quiet way of signaling load.

I wasn’t alone in the literal sense. I was surrounded by people. But there was a gap between my inner world and what anyone else could see—and that gap felt isolating in its own way.

Nothing felt dramatic on its own. What overwhelmed my body wasn’t one exposure — it was the quiet accumulation of many small ones over time.

It sounded like reassurance. It landed like erasure. This is what it felt like when my effort to appear okay became proof—at least to others—that nothing was really wrong.

For me, EMFs didn’t become “stronger.” My capacity became smaller. Illness and aging can narrow the nervous system’s margin — and what once felt neutral can start to feel like too much.

It wasn’t that I didn’t want connection. I just didn’t have the energy to translate my boundaries over and over, especially when they kept changing.

What looks like defiance, moodiness, or inattention can sometimes be a nervous system under quiet strain — not a child choosing to act out.

As my environment changed and my limits narrowed, I realized I wasn’t just grieving how I felt—I was grieving who I used to be in the world.

A developing brain isn’t broken or fragile — it’s unfinished. And that difference matters when constant background stimulation becomes part of everyday life.
