I didn’t slowly drift away from people. The distance appeared almost overnight—right around the moment my home stopped feeling safe and everything else became harder to explain.

It usually isn’t a complaint or a symptom — it’s a quiet shift in sleep, mood, or regulation that doesn’t quite make sense on its own.

At some point, I realized I was asking the wrong people to understand something they had no reference for. Letting go of that expectation was painful—but also quietly relieving.

Aging doesn’t make people fragile — but it can change how much stimulation the nervous system can comfortably process at once.

I wasn’t asking for special treatment. I was asking for conditions my body could tolerate. Still, needing a safer space slowly became something I felt guilty about.

What I noticed wasn’t illness or clear complaints — it was subtle shifts in sleep, mood, and regulation that were easy to explain away until they repeated.

I wasn’t asking for attention. I was trying to get through the day. This is what I learned about why everyday survival can look exaggerated to people who aren’t living inside it.
