Knowing something is fine isn’t the same as feeling safe inside it.
Once conditions improved, I assumed reassurance would be the missing piece.
If someone confirmed the space was safe, or if nothing bad happened for long enough, I expected my body to relax.

Why Reassurance Feels Necessary During Recovery
During periods of uncertainty, reassurance serves a purpose.
It helps the brain orient and reduce immediate fear.
But when reassurance becomes ongoing, it subtly reinforces the idea that safety requires confirmation.
The body stays in a listening posture, waiting for the next update.
I kept checking because I believed certainty would eventually settle me.
Seeking reassurance can unintentionally keep safety conditional.

How Reassurance Keeps Attention Oriented Toward Threat
Each time I sought reassurance, I had to revisit the question.
Is this safe? Is this okay? Did I miss something?
Even neutral answers required returning to the possibility of danger.
That loop kept my attention tethered to threat, not familiarity.
Safety never had a chance to fade into the background.
Safety becomes believable through repetition, not explanation.

Trust forms when safety no longer needs to be checked.
