I thought emotional healing would unfold on its own once the danger was over. But even when life was calmer, my body stayed guarded. It took time to see that recovery wasn’t only about what happened — it was also about where my nervous system was trying to heal.

I kept wondering why simple tasks felt heavier at home. It wasn’t laziness — it was how my drive quietly returned the moment I changed environments.

I expected improvement to feel like relief. Instead, after remediation, my body felt more reactive — not less. It was confusing and discouraging until I realized that sensitivity increasing didn’t mean remediation failed. It meant my system was still recalibrating.

Each day blurred into the next at home. Even after sleep or rest, my body felt like it was carrying yesterday forward instead of starting fresh.

I wasn’t confused or incapable — I was overloaded. Simple decisions felt heavier. Thinking took more effort than it should have. It felt like my mind was carrying weight it never got to set down.

I didn’t feel panicked or dissociated — just slightly removed. It wasn’t until I noticed where presence returned that I understood what was happening.

I was resting. I was sleeping. I was doing all the things that were supposed to help. And still, I woke up feeling like I hadn’t really stopped. It took time to realize that rest doesn’t restore if the body never feels fully off-duty.
