The doubt didn’t start because nothing was happening. It started because what I was experiencing didn’t line up neatly with logic, language, or other people’s reactions — and over time, that mismatch made me turn inward instead of trusting myself.

I kept expecting fresh air to solve it. When opening windows didn’t bring the relief I assumed it would, I had to rethink what “ventilation” actually meant for my body.

We were in the same room, breathing the same air, living the same moment. Everyone else seemed fine. I didn’t — and that contrast quietly made me question myself more than the symptoms ever did.

It wasn’t just what I was cooking — it was how heat and grease quietly changed the air around me. The interaction wasn’t dramatic, but my body noticed the shift long before I understood what was happening.

I didn’t lack words because nothing was happening. I lacked words because what was happening didn’t fit into familiar language — and every attempt to explain it made me feel more unsure instead of clearer.

It wasn’t one appliance or one smell. It was the layering — heat, movement, time, and indoor air all coming together in a way my body noticed before I understood why.

From the outside, my life looked fine. I was functioning. I was present. Nothing appeared broken. But internally, I felt separate — like I was living just slightly out of sync with everyone else around me.

Nothing about the microwave seemed unusual — until I started noticing how different the air felt afterward. What confused me wasn’t a smell or a reaction I could point to, but a subtle shift my body noticed before I had words for it.
