I assumed mold stayed where it grew. What I didn’t understand yet was how easily disturbance can lift a settled problem into the air — and change how an entire space feels.

I assumed utility buildings were designed for function and safety. What surprised me was how enclosed air, long dwell times, and constant recirculation made my body work harder just to stay steady inside.

I was told the mold had been handled. What I didn’t understand yet was how much of a difference there is between changing how something behaves and removing it from the environment entirely.

I expected the physical work to be the hardest part. What surprised me was how much strain came from simply being inside the building — even on days when the job itself was manageable.

I assumed containment meant plastic sheets and caution tape. What I learned was that real containment is quieter, more deliberate, and far more protective than it looks.

I kept waiting for a smell — something obvious I could point to. Instead, the space felt dense and tiring in a way I couldn’t name, even though nothing seemed wrong on the surface.

I was told to focus on what I could see. What I didn’t understand yet was how much of the problem exists beyond the places your eyes can reach.

I kept thinking the lights were just annoying. What I didn’t realize was how lighting and air worked together to tax my body — quietly amplifying symptoms that never showed up from just one factor alone.

I believed doing it myself would give me more control. What I didn’t realize yet was how easily well-intended effort can move a problem instead of resolving it.

I thought working from home helped because it was quieter and more flexible. What I didn’t realize at first was how much my body was responding to a completely different environment — not just a different schedule.
