Before my first mold detection dog inspection, I assumed preparation meant deep cleaning and opening windows. I was wrong. I learned that certain “helpful” steps can actually interfere with results, while others quietly improve clarity. Knowing how to prepare — and what to leave alone — made the inspection far more useful and far less confusing.

Living in a shared building made everything feel more complicated. If mold detection dogs alerted in my unit, did that mean the problem was mine—or coming from somewhere else entirely? I learned that dogs can still be useful in apartments and condos, but shared air, neighboring units, and building systems change how results should be interpreted.

When symptoms don’t line up neatly with test results, it’s tempting to look to mold detection dogs for answers about health. I did too.
