Calm Guidance

I expected illness to announce itself clearly. What I didn’t expect was how quiet the earliest changes were — easy to dismiss, easy to rationalize, and hard to name until they had already been happening for a long time.

When I first heard people say this, it sounded vague and almost mystical. It wasn’t until I lived it that I understood what they were actually describing — a kind of knowing that arrives quietly, before logic or certainty.

I thought things hung on walls were harmless because they felt light and removable. What I didn’t understand yet was how even thin layers can quietly block airflow, trap moisture, and change how a wall dries over time.

I kept trying to reason my way out of what I was feeling. But my body had already decided something wasn’t right — long before my thoughts could explain it.

I thought anything outside the glass didn’t count as “inside.” What I didn’t understand yet was how layers meant to protect the home can quietly change how moisture behaves right at the boundary.
