Calm Guidance

Sealed buildings didn’t feel wrong at first. They felt quiet. Controlled. Over time, that quiet started to feel heavy — like the space was holding everything inside, including me.

I expected familiarity to feel safe. Instead, the places I knew best were where my body reacted the strongest — not because they were worse, but because I stopped guarding myself there.

Recirculated air wasn’t something I noticed by name. I felt it as repetition — the sense that the air around me never quite refreshed, no matter how long I stayed inside.

I could relax — just not very far. Indoors, my body hit a ceiling where ease stopped short, like full relaxation required more safety than the space could offer.

Trapped air wasn’t something I could point to, but I could feel it. Certain rooms felt heavier, quieter, and harder to settle into, even when nothing looked wrong.

I wanted numbers to explain what I was feeling — something concrete to point to. But the most consistent signal wasn’t a reading. It was my body’s pattern.

Fresh air exchange wasn’t something I thought about in technical terms. I felt it as contrast — the quiet relief that came when indoor air no longer felt trapped.

My emotions didn’t spiral or explode — they just became harder to manage smoothly. Over time, small feelings took more effort to steady, especially indoors.

I was finally doing less, resting more, and focusing on healing — and that’s when everything felt louder. Not because I was getting worse, but because my body had stopped compensating.
