I didn’t want a concession — I wanted the situation to feel fair again. I learned that asking about rent during a mold issue isn’t about leverage; it’s about acknowledging that the home I was paying for wasn’t the home I was living in.

I assumed newer meant safer. Fewer problems. Better materials. What I learned instead was that newness can sometimes make issues harder to see — not easier.

I never expected the idea of staying somewhere else to feel so complicated. I learned that temporary housing isn’t just about logistics — it can stir fear, guilt, and uncertainty all at once.
