Calm Guidance

I assumed dryer sheets did their job in the dryer and were done. What surprised me was how long their presence stayed with me — not as a strong smell, but as a subtle layer my body kept noticing long after the laundry was finished.

Nothing about the sounds themselves changed — conversations, appliances, everyday noise — but indoors, my system reacted as if everything was turned up too high.

I thought laundry detergent stayed on clothes, not in the air. It took time to realize that what touches fabric all day can quietly shape how a room feels — especially when my body was already paying closer attention.

I didn’t become “sensitive” overnight. I just started noticing that indoor light felt harsher than it used to — like my system couldn’t relax under it. This is what it felt like when overstimulation showed up as light sensitivity, not anxiety.

I didn’t realize how much scent was filling my space until it was gone. The change wasn’t dramatic or immediate — it was quieter than that — but my body noticed the difference before my mind did.
