Calm Guidance

I thought ERMI would tell me what I was breathing right now. What I learned was that it was answering a different question — one I hadn’t realized I was asking.

Mental bandwidth didn’t feel like stress or distraction. It felt like capacity — like my mind could only hold so much at once before everything started to crowd each other.

I kept searching for a line that would tell me what was acceptable. What I learned was that ERMI cutoffs aren’t firm boundaries — and treating them like one added unnecessary pressure.

Difficulty concentrating didn’t feel like distraction or lack of effort. It felt like my attention kept slipping away before it had a chance to settle, even when I genuinely wanted to stay present.

I expected ERMI to predict my experience in the space. What I learned was that it describes an environment — not how my body would respond to it.

Racing thoughts didn’t feel like anxiety to me. They felt like momentum — as if my mind kept moving even when my body wanted rest.

I didn’t experience distraction as lack of discipline or interest. It felt more like my attention couldn’t stay anchored — as if something in the space kept tugging at my awareness, even when I wanted to stay present.
